Mainline Construction (2014) Ltd. is seeking for a Trucking Dispatcher to work within our Grande Prairie location. Reporting to the Trucking Supervisor, the Trucking Dispatcher has the overall responsibility to ensure trucks are dispatched to project sites on a timely and efficient basis. The Trucking Dispatcher will be responsible for using the latest in routing software to establish daily trucking routes that make required stops outlined in customer contracts. The successful candidate for this position needs to be able to adjust to last minute changes and work with drivers to schedule emergency pick-up or delivery for new or established clients when necessary.

 

This job entails all aspects of coordinating, strong communication skills and ability to adapt to changing priorities. The duties listed below, but not limited to, the following: Dispatch Company owned and third-party trucks; while oversee maintenance of company owned trucks. Communicating on a daily basis with drivers provide instructions, directions and to monitor their daily schedules and with superintendents to understand daily trucking requirements. Schedule or dispatch workers, work crews, equipment, or service vehicles to appropriate locations, according to customer requests, specifications, or needs, using radios or telephones. Relay work orders, messages, or information to or from work crews, supervisors, or field inspectors, using telephones or two-way radio. Determine types or amounts of equipment, vehicles, materials, or personnel required, according to work orders or specifications; ordering supplies or equipment and issue them to personnel. Advise personnel about traffic problems, such as construction areas, accidents, congestion, weather conditions, or other hazards. Monitor the route and status of drivers to coordinate and prioritize their schedule and provide drivers with accurate information about orders. Advise vehicle operators of route and traffic problems such as construction, accidents, congestion, weather conditions, etc. Enter data in computer system and maintain logs and records of calls, activities and other information. Process and transmit information and instructions to coordinate the activities of vehicle operators, crews and equipment using computer and dispatching equipment. Other related dispatch duties and responsibilities as required.

 

The Ideal Candidate for this position will possess the following:

Qualifications and Experience:
• High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
• Minimum of 1 – 2 years of experience as a Dispatcher.
• Experience dispatching trucks within a heavy civil construction environment, an asset
• Class 5 Driver’s License; clean Driver’s Abstract
• Strong knowledge of Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations, Canadian Hours of Service (HOS) Regulations, Cargo Securements, Alberta Commercial Weight and Dimensions Regulations, Alberta Commercial Transportation Permits and OH&S standards.
• Valid WHMIS, H2S Alive, TDG, eGSO (electronic General Safety Orientation) and Construction Safety Training System (CSTS) or Petroleum Safety Training (PST)
• Experience dispatching trucks within a heavy civil construction environment, an asset
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills required an asset.
